Water St Restaurant Summer 09 Specials
July 13th, 2009
Water Street Restaurant in Dumbo has some new menu specials for the summer starting today. The menu has changed recently and I was pleasantly surprised by their burger, which was seared and cooked perfectly. (The only other burger we’d recommend in Dumbo is at Superfine (only on Sundays and during lunch. Anyone else have suggestions?) Anyway, see below for the daily specials:

Mondays: Burger and Brew ($10 any burger, any draught, all day)
Tuesdays: 1/2 off Wine Night (Bottles 1/2 price all night. Free weekly tastings)
Wednesdays: Lobster, Champagne, and Jazz (featuring Phishbacker, $24 lobster w/ 2 sides and a glass of Champagne)
Thursdays: Ladies Night (Free cosmos from 5-6 for the ladies)
Fridays: Happy Hour (Free winds 5-6:30p at the bar)
Saturdays: Your Favorite Sporting Event (Watch the game on our screens)
Sundays: Jazz Brunch with Steele Greye Band
Daily Earlybird prix fix $23.50 (Sun-Thu 5-6:30pm)

Five Front has a far better burger than Water Street

Agreed, Five Front does have a much better burger.
July 13th, 2009 at 5:18 pm
Burger is dry and comes from Cosco.
Yes! Much better around the corner at 5 front.
How does this Water Street business stay in business?
Maybe a family member works with two trees or Walentas?
Hmmm……

5 Front BLOWS that crappy bar away!!! Water street is absolutely foul and I have NO idea how that place stays in business let alone has a license to serve alcohol on the street??? That is strange…
Crap food, dirty environment.

I like them both. Can’t say which is better but Water Street has great burgers. Staff is really nice, except for that redhead waitress. Ruined our lunch and the couple next to us. Could not have been nastier. Should be fired, or thrown into the river. Rest of the staff is great.
Also, had a great meal at rebar. Steak sandwich was killer. 5 Front’s always been good. Finally getting warm enough to go in the yard!
Still haven’t tried the morrocan place. Rumor of the $7 ice tea was enough to turn me off.
I like the truck in the triangle too.

water street bar & grill is a dump, 5 front is not far behind. would rather walk a couple of extra blocks to Jack the Horse Tavern

water street is a bunch of racists. My gf and I sat at a bar for 15min on a non-busy night and the bartender totally ignored us while he happily served all the white people.

Sounds like there are some dissatisfied customers, but I’ve had really good experiences there. The new Water St Restaurant (after the menu/staff change) is much better in terms of food, so not sure if everyone is talking about their experience from the old Water St Restaurant.

hs that is absurd. More to the point, I would be embarrassed to admit that the 2 of you were sitting at an empty bar for 15 minutes and never said a word. That is so old school yuppie!
July 14th, 2009 at 11:01 am
hs. I’m white and I’ve been ignored by the bartenders there too. I don’t think it was intentional. I think they’re clueless.

maybe i’m cluessless, but when I kept asking for a menu and trying to give my drink order, he kept saying I’ll be right back. I guess he was offended that I had white women as a date.

its also very easy for white people to say racism doesnt exits.

What ever happened to the noise complaint that a couple who lived upstairs from the bar brought against Water Street bar? They were lawyers I believe. It was years ago.

You’ve got to be kidding, racist?? half the staff is Latin, the hostess is Eastern European, the musicians are African American, and the cooks are pretty much all South American.
A restaurant that is struggling, cannot afford to be racist buddy..the service is just weak, or maybe you were just a little rude??, maybe??
and i think everyone is missing the point of their Summer menu..its in-expensive, period.
July 15th, 2009 at 6:08 pm
Buddy question mark.
The menu is not inexpensive period. You meant that the prices are steep exclamation point.
Sadly we hispanic people can be racist too period.
Also do you work at that fine establishment by chance question mark.

What about Bubbys burgers? Those seem to be pretty good.
I’m not a fan of 66 Water’s I tried them a few weeks back again and they were still not so hot. Their fries are usually over cooked too.
5 Front’s burgers can be inconsistent. Sometimes fantastic, other times mediocre. Fries are always great. Good service too and you can’t beat that garden

Waterstreet has gone downhill since it changed owners. We went twice after the switch and each time was worse. Incompetent staff and a manger who had no idea how to manage anything. The credit card reader wasn’t working, we’d sat there for a long time waiting for our bill, maybe send over a cup of coffee or a glass of wine?
The next time we showed up after brunch but before the kitchen was open for dinner, which they neglected to tell us until we had ordered our beers. We saw at least one couple (who was white so it wasn’t racism) get up and leave because no one came over to take their orders. finally we were told we could order a few totally random items and the waitress really pushed the rawbar. If you have a rawbar, have someone who knows how to open a clam without shattering the shell and decimating the clam. We haven’t been back since.

I walked by what used to be Toro the other day and saw that it was now open as 1 Front St Restaurant (maybe it’s been like that for a long time). Anyone been there?
July 15th, 2009 at 9:46 pm
Tim,
Nope don’t work there, and as in buddy, I meant that to the person that referenced the racist aspect. And as in non expensive, $10 for a burger and beer is in fact inexpensive, but if you know of somewhere else, that us locals can walk to, please do tell. And you’re so quick to throw out that “we hispanic” people can be racist too.. well I’m also “hispanic” born, raised in this BK that we ALL call home. And never, ever have I felt discrimanted against, or have discrimated against my fine American people..
July 16th, 2009 at 2:36 pm
Funny thing old bean I am “hispanic” also if you want to get into “cred” like you seem to, I was born in Puerto Ricao and moved to Brooklyn as a lad. Beats you old old man.
You have never been discriminated (though you seem to have misspelled it, like me it could be a product of the Brooklyn educational system) against nor discriminated against another? Wow! Angelic man Angelic. Jesus has arrived or just a blind man.
As for a good burger? 5 Front supper fine would be starters. Brooklyn Heights is in what they call “walking distance” too. Unless you have eaten too many burgers. Plus inexpensive does not equal good and that is where Front Street comes in or goes out.
July 18th, 2009 at 6:56 pm
So, its safe to assume that the Puerto Rico school system was better, Puerto Ricao??
And nothing about “cred” but, “Lad”, really??
Not sure where supper fine is either..
Try and spread some of that pride to your hood, and it’s small, struggling bars/restaurants..
just saying, without them, there’s no “us” and vice versa..
