Alternate Side Parking Suspended in Dumbo for 2 Months
July 7th, 2009
According to the Department of Transportation, Dumbo is one of 5 neighborhoods in Brooklyn to suspend alternate side parking for two months so they can install signs that reduce street cleaning from two days a week to one. The change goes into effect on Monday for Downtown Brooklyn, DUMBO, Vinegar Hill, Fulton Ferry and Brooklyn Heights. Per the NY Post article, the borders include:
North: East River from Furman Street to Hudson Avenue.
East: Hudson Avenue (included) from John Street to Navy Street, including Plymouth Street, Little Street and Evans Street; Navy Street (included) from Hudson Avenue to Myrtle Avenue; Myrtle Avenue (not included) from Navy Street to Flatbush Avenue; Flatbush Avenue (included) from Myrtle Avenue to Fulton Street.
South: Fulton Street (not included) from Flatbush Avenue to Adams Street; Joralemon Street (included) from Adams Street to East River.
West: Furman Street (included) from Joralemon Street to Old Fulton Street.
The regular no parking signs and meter parking will be in effect during this process. Our neighbor, Brooklyn Heights Blog has a map on their site, which we posted after the jump. Per Robert Perris, District Manager, Community Board 2: “The map above is by itself incomplete. Drivers should bear in mind that Fulton Street and Myrtle Avenue are NOT included in the suspension area.”

Do the meter maids know about this?
July 9th, 2009 at 9:27 am
i guarantee the meter maids and tow truck drivers dont know and dont care. I’ll probably get my car towed… although the ticket will be dropped , the effort to retrieve the car and work hours lost is absolutely horrendous. I ain’t taking the chance.

I kinda have to side with J.D. on this one.

Tuesday morning: Has anybody thrown caution to the wind and left their car parked in a street cleaning location yet???

Tickets i dont mind getting because they are easy to contest online. But they are so damn tow-happy in this neighborhood. The lazy tow truck drivers can get their quotas easily since we are so close to the tow yard.

So far, Vinegar Hill has passed the test. Cars were parked all day Thursday on Hudson ave and no tickets.

I got a ticket parked on York and adams. At least they didnt tow my car. Meter maids are morons.

I got a ticket on York on Friday night also…pain in the ass! But, they never tow if you don’t move your car for street cleaning – you get a $45 ticket. They will tow if you are parked in other no parking zones.

i called 311 and they said to fight it, that i shouldn’t have gotten the ticket. but, still, a pain in the ass!
