That’s terrible news. I hope they’re going to be ok… and that someone steps forward with information.

oh man, I walked by maybe 2-3 mins prior. All I can say is there were and usually are, a lot of people in that area at that time. I would be shocked if there was not someone with info out there. Hopefully you can track them down. Prayers and best wishes to the victim

The corner is very dangerous with no side walk. The drivers have little respect for stopping. The stop sign is not always obeyed. Lots of rolling stops. They get very angry sometimes.
I saw the aftermath of the accident. Very very sad. Hope the fellow is ok.

No drivers in Dumbo respect the traffic laws. Watch the 9-5ers coming out of the parking garage on Main off Front: everyone of them turns the wrong way on one-way Main to get to Front. Parents crossing the street with kids don’t expect cars to be coming at them from the wrong direction. Or watch the intersection at Front and Washington. Even the cops don’t come to a full stop. Traffic lights!!!!!

I agree the cars do not obey the laws neither do the cyclists. They always go the wrong way on front. When you say something that get ad at you. when they hit a child it will be too late.
Also many pedestrians like to cross without looking while texting. They can’t chew gum and walk at the same time.
Dangerous business.

That intersection needs a light. The tiny sidewalk will take some major work to expand. As for the cyclists, well pedestrians also need to obey the laws as well. Many times I see people walking out into the street in front of my bike as if I am not there. But most dangerous of all, are the people who cross a street while texting or chatting on their phones, completely oblivious to the dangers they are putting themselves in and others. I hope the person hit is ok and people come forward as witnesses.

I don’t think you mean that the pedestrian is the most dangerous of all. Unless they are killing cars lately. Some tough yuppies and tourists in these parts.

any update on the person? i’ve had my son step wayyy back from the curb for years as the drivers coming down have absolutely no regard. anyone with info please update!

The accident is very unfortunate and I hope the man who got hit is recovering. I believe his arm and legs were broken and in a wheelchair. I hope a witness steps up so police can get the facts.
I see cars whizzing by that intersection all the time. I don’t think there’s enough traffic for a stoplight, but I wonder if we can request from DOT a speed bump.

i’ve long believed dumbo has some very dangerous streets. the amount of cars whizzing past main street, with no regard for children crossing at the park, is an accident waiting to happen. (not to mention all the wrong way traffic down there). is there a way we can use this incident to rally for several speed bumps/traffic evaluations of the neighborhood?

How about the livery drivers? The “professionals”. Good luck with these crazy MFs in a hurry.

Look before you cross the street.
I always see pedestrians blindly crossing from the under BQE overpass, assuming drivers will stop.
Drivers, pedestrians, bikers are all equally to blame. No one has common sense anymore.

And this will be one block from the proposed new school at Dock St.

drivers need to learn to drive.
pedestrians need to learn how to cross the street
bikers need to learn how to bike.
they are all a holes.

It is inherently dangerous to travel in NYC. I drive, I bike, and I actually run/jog on the city streets. No amount of gratuitous advice about safety will prevent the occasional tragedy.
