Worse yet, this is typically followed by "Do you have 3 cents?". No, I don't, maybe you should change the price to $3 flat. "Taxes sir" is the usual response. You would figure the amount of effort for them to generate 97 cents in change would outweigh the 3 cents. The worst example of this in recent memory is when I purchased a slice of pizza at the $.99 Pizza place on E43rd...and was subsequently asked for $1.07. While yes, the nickel will add up for Jacques Torres, but if you have a $5 & not the nickel (assuming tax is included) and you wanted 2 scoops, you're going to now buy one because you don't have a nickel. It's a little silly.
