Goodbye to Otterness Sculpture in Dumbo
April 3rd, 2009

After almost one year, Tom Otterness’ Large Covered Wagon sculpture that was located on the corner of Prospect Street and Washington Street in Dumbo is no longer on display. Cranes lifted the solid bronze sculpture onto a flatbed and taken away this morning. Thanks to Mr. Otterness for loaning us the sculpture. It was a popular photo op spot with visitors and tourists as it is one of the first things seen when coming off the Brooklyn Bridge walkway. It would be nice to see other art/sculptures rotate on that otherwise ho hum corner.
There are no plans to replace the sculpture with another installation at this time. The project was made possible by a grant from Two Trees Management Co. and the Walentas Foundation and sponsored by the Dumbo Improvement District.

Yeah, I third that notion. That sculpture was really cool and will be missed! I still remember the cow parade which also rocked!

I got really used to seeing the wagon everyday on my trek to and from the High St station. Sucks… the corner looks so empty now.

Dog tastes good.

that was the stupidest, ugliest piece of “art”. The torture of seeing this lasted far too long. good riddance.

snoop – the guy has apologized profusely multiple times and the only reason anyone knows about the incident in the first place is that he apologized for it. get over it.

I love public art – but I have always hated this particular artist’s work. It gives me the creeps and I am so glad that it’s gone. Now, if only they will remove him from the 14th St A/C station as well…

Anon….
As far as 14th st goes, it was a major improvement from the crack heads, wolf packs, urine and low lighting that was indicative of the past (and possibly near future) MTA.
But art is art, either you like it or don’t.

awe… I’m sad to see it go. It added some festivity to that barren stretch of park land.

It always reminded me of ‘Waiting for Guffman’.
