Rickshaw Dumpling Truck in Dumbo

The Rickshaw Dumpling Truck is in Dumbo on Washington and Front Street today. The owner Kenny Lao, and the chef, Anita Lo (of Annisa) have received numerous requests from the businesses in Dumbo for the truck to come to the neighborhood, and they’ve responded by coming out today. We spoke with Kenny, who said about the visit, “we are psyched that we got requests to come to your neighborhood and hope that it works out. I think DUMBO is full of people that are doing amazing things in new york city and there is a shortage of food for sure! If all goes well we make make it a Monday DUMBO Dumplings thing!” If you like them, please visit them and grab a snack.
You can track them on their website or on their Twitter page. Check out the Midtown Lunch blog for a review of the dumplings. We used to go to the Dumpling Bar on 8th Street until it closed recently, but their dumplings were addictive. The Peking duck dumplings may not be part of the truck but those were delicious, but they have their classic pork and Chinese chive dumplings, which are excellent too. Did anyone get a chance to get some dumplings today?

I saw them yesterday. Cool truck. But their dumplings looked the same as the ones I get at North Dumpling only at 6 times the price. Come on guys, haven’t you heard about the recession? You can buy a bag of 60 fresh dumplings in Chinatown for $6 any morning. Whats that markup? 200% okay, profit, 300% more profit, 1000%? Profiteering. I hope the people working on the truck got $15/hr and benefits.
I thought roach coaches were supposed to be cheaper (more moderately price shall we say) than restos not more expensive.

I have to agree with Dis4D, the dumplings are a little dear. They were very fresh and tasty and a welcome alternative. The Chicken Thai Basil dumplings were a satisfying blend and the peanut sauce, once nuked for 15 secs, was delicious! I hope they come back weekly but only on days when my appetite isn’t too ravenous, otherwise they’ll lose out to a couple of Front St. pinwheels for half the price and twice the satiation.

Hey! It may be shitty but its B.I.G. and they also have Margaritas. If the coolie Dumpling caravan starts serving bigee Lychee Margaritas to go, I’ll swallow my comments and line up.
Their resto on Barrow Street, while also very good is in the somewhat pricey category but its not street food and doesn’t claim to be. Capitalism is also the exercise of common sense on the part of both parties buyer and seller.
