Readers have reported recent car break ins on Adams Street over the weekend. According to police patrols, they have started seeing them again in recent days. One weekend isn’t a trend, but can this be due to the tough economic times or does it come with the warmer weather? There’s also reports of gunshot sounds on Gold and York Streets on Saturday. Anyone else hear them?

Be on the lookout for suspicious activity and call the 84th Precinct (718-875-6811 (store this number in your cell phone)) or 911 if you witness any crimes.

anyone know the legalities of setting up a visible survellance camera on adams st on the BQE overpass?

  2. BrooklynLove Says:

For the love of god. Pool money for a privately funded security patrol or get used to it.

I noticed broken glass over the last couple of months on front btw jay and bridge as well as york between jay and bridge… One instance must have happened in broad day light on a Sunday. I walk my dog on the same route every morning and didn’t notice anything and then went out later that day and noticed a Mercedes ML with its window smashed in. I have to believe the break ins are happening to visitors and not residents. With that being said is it worth posting various “hot spots” with signs saying “beware or car burglaries”

We need to keep an eye out for the spotters and the actual thief(s). I have a gut feeling they are white stock brokers and who also reside in 70 Wash.

  5. j.d. Says:

    those damn white stock brokers!

  6. b Says:

Couldn’t be the white stock brokers.

They wouldn’t bother with small change and high risk of robbing cars when they’re robbing us all through their shenanigans on Wall Street and threatening us with a worse economic situation if we don’t pony up to pay off for their mistakes.

Hmmmm. Loose Stool doesn’t comment for a few days…just as Cracky suddenly appears back on our streets. Coincidence?

  8. fafafooey Says:

    Nick Gerz did it.

  9. Gold(en) Gun Says:

What about the existing cameras attached to the bldng on the corner of Front and Bridge? This is where a majority of the break-ins are happening! Don’t tell me they are just for show…

  10. skinny guy Says:

It’s probably that tall skinny black guy with the wire rim glasses. He’s been seen before scoping out cars.

  11. boink Says:

zzzzzzzzzzz, you may be on to something. I noticed Cracky back in the neighborhood this weekend for the first time in months. Looking as shady as ever!

I’ve said this before. Simply stop locking your cars. I have 2 cars, lived here for over 20 years and have never had a broken window. Yea, sometimes people have gone through it, but it beats replacing the window. Nobody has ever even taken a dump. However zzzzzzzzzzz, if I find your Forester unlocked I will make it smell like the woods!

Just saw a guy get beat up by 3 drunk dudes on corner of front/pearl. Apparently they skipped out of rebar without paying. I called the cops and took some photos and the cops were literally there within a minute of my phone call. They caught both of the guys. I’m hoping to stay updated on what happens with this crime. The guy that tried to stop them was in bad shape, he had a bottle broken over his head. Seriously disturbing.

    Nice work.

  15. loose stool Says:

I think Tuesday is “Chocolate Singles” night at rebar

  16. zzzzzzzzzzz Says:

Christ loose stool you seriously need to get a hobby. Aren’t you even slightly embarrassed by your relentless postings and inane, unfunny, childish comments?

    Nick Gerz keyed my car

  18. jubie Says:

my driver’s side window was smashed two sundays ago on the corner of washington and water. i parked right next to the sovereign bank at 1pm to check out the flea market and when i came back by 2:30 it was a mess. what i can’t get over is that- not only did it happen downtown and in broad daylight but there were people *everywhere*.

seemed like a desperate act to me.
    :(

  19. Steve Says:

I have been victimized twice this past year. In broad daylight as well. However,I was told by a reporter from News 12, that the police have one person in custody another suspect they are pursuing.
    Thanks

  20. John Says:

Keep your stuff out of sight in your cars. Thiefs won’t be tempted to steal something if they don’t see it.

  21. BrooklynLove Says:

you people are deaf, stupid and/or stubborn. pay for a private security patrol or park in a garage. police aren’t going to stop this. solution requires prevention, not reaction. how many rounds of car breakins and mark beatdowns do you novices need before you get it?

  22. loose stool Says:

No way these people will pay for security. As soon as the coloreds realize that Dumbo is safer they’ll be parking their Escalades on Water St. I for one am happy that J Condoites park their Sports on the street, takes the target of my back.

  23. drschikaly Says:

just accept the fact the window smashing is and always will be a fact of life in nyc. It happens everywhere- park slope, brooklyn heights, upper east side… its no different anywhere else in the city..

I’ve been parking for years in dumbo and no one has smashed my window because i dont keep any crap visible in my car…. however, I have been keyed like 10 million times.
