Senator Squadron Announce Opening of Main Gate to Empire-Fulton Ferry State Park
February 17th, 2009

The office of State Senator Daniel Squadron announced today that the Dock Street entrance to Empire-Fulton Ferry State Park is NOW open, after being closed for over a year. The opening comes in response to a request from State Senator Squadron. It’s about time the main entrance is opened, after stabilizing the deterioration of the Empire Stores building. Now only if the state can find funding to restore the historic buildings…

Squadron Praises State Parks For Needed Change
Brooklyn, NY—State Senator Daniel Squadron and Rachel Gordon, New York City Regional Director of the State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, announced today that the Dock Street entrance to Empire-Fulton Ferry State Park, long closed to neighborhood use, is now open to the public. The opening comes in response to a request from State Senator Squadron.
“This park is a great resource that should be as open and accessible as possible,” said State Senator Squadron. “Opening the Dock Street gate is one small step that will make a big difference for Brooklyn residents.”
“The Dock Street gate on Water Street has been closed pending the exterior stabilization of the Empire Stores,” said New York City Regional Director Rachel Gordon. “We are very pleased that as that has now been accomplished, the gate can be reopened. Two entrances are better than one.”

Right. After the official photo-op of ‘Opening’ of the Water Street Manhattan Bridge underpass. That was locked down never to be opened again.
If you’re not going to open something say so. Don’t open it. And then lock it down with no explanation. There are so many public/private/NGO/local partnerships running around its impossible to track down who’s in charge of what.
That gate to the BBridge Park opens right up though if you rent the place for a wedding. Somebody has to pay their condo mortgage in 55 Washington.

It’s amazing what passes for a park around here. What an embarrassment. 6 acres of weed choked shore line with a bunch of ketchup encrusted picnic tables. Oh! And don’t forget that pasty white fellow in the gold thong. My kids still have nightmares!

Flesh-colored thong man is still there? He was the centerpiece at a picnic my friend and I threw back in 2004. The neighborhood really hasn’t changed much at all.

I’m not sure. My kids are tethered to the computer now so we don’t get out to enjoy the wildlife in Dumbo parks anymore.

Would be lovely if these shmucks staged their political hand jobs in albany instead of dumbo. bunch of BS.

This post is confusing. Should it read that “announced today that the Dock Street entrance to Empire-Fulton Ferry State Park is NOW open” instead of “not open”?

Rene, that’s my fault. Thanks for catching that.
