Letting corporations decide our civic development of parks and schools is pretty hazardous, they’ll trash plans just because it doesn’t meet their short-term profit targets regardless of the community’s long-term needs. Sometimes it works in our favor, e.g. Atlantic Yards. But I think in this case, we could get stuck with a half-finished urban renewal project. Government plans may be inefficient and costly but they are an investment in ourselves not in some CEO’s salary.
