Dumbo Evening Itinerary

From Tasting Table last week, their ideal itinerary for Dumbo is meet up at 68 Jay Street bar, catch-up at Hecho en Dumbo for dinner, then cap the night at Galapagos Art Space. Here’s what they had to say:
- Meet Up: 68 Jay St. Bar – Weeknight bonding begins with $3 drafts at this brick-walled haunt, where local art dealers and industrial designers become fast new friends.
- Catch-up: Hecho en Dumbo – At night, chef Danny Mena turns the Dumbo General Store into a lively, cash-only Mexican restaurant where he serves small-scale versions of familiar fare. Try the chef’s choice, a $19 platter that might include Berkshire pork steamed in a banana leaf, locally made chorizo and the handmade sopes (griddled corn cakes topped with chicken and cotija cheese). Temper this spicy spread with a smoky Michelada Cubana, a beer spiced with salsa picante and Worcestershire. Dainty portions leave enough room for the pastel imposible, a decadent pairing of cinnamon flan and chocolate cake.
- End Up: Galapagos Art Space – Late of Williamsburg, this gorgeous nightclub has been reincarnated in Dumbo. Order the cinnamon-spiced honey martini and get cozy in one of the circular booths that populate the low-lit, cavernous space. The floor has inlaid pools of dark water where you can check out your reflection while standing by for live music and other doses of culture.
Good choices of drinks, food, and bar. Our alternative meet-up, catch-up, and end up:
- Meet Up: Speak Low – The easy-to-miss lounge takes their cocktails seriously. The speakeasy vibe in a candlelit setting has ‘historically conscious’ recipes with fresh-squeezed juice enhanced with their own homemade concoctions, including bitters and real grenadine. It’s got the best happy hour specials; 2 for 1 cocktails and $3 Tsing Taos. (81 Washington Street, Brooklyn, NY; (718) 222-1LOW)
- Catch-Up: Superfine – Known for working with local farms for produce and meats, Superfine’s burgers (only on Sundays and during lunch) and pork chops are the dishes we come back for. It’s a good place to meet up for dinner, shoot some pool, and have a few beers all while listening to some live music on certain weekends. (126 Front Street, Brooklyn, NY; (718) 243-9005)
- End Up: reBar – Aside from their huge specialty beer list, they started serving lunch and dinner tapas and full meals last year. They have several rooms in the big space, an intimate lounge area for you and a date or the bar area for you and friends to meet. After a few drinks and you start getting hungry, the tapas are perfect (until 2am) or drink until 4am on weekends. (147 Front Street, Brooklyn, NY; (718) 797-2322)
What are your suggestions?

Their cocktails are excellent. It is a great space with a relaxed atmosphere. I’ve been there probably 5 times. Good happy hour prices. I hope it stays in business for a long time.

Re: Low, reBar, Superfine, 68 Jay, etc, which would be the most agreeable spot (variety of drinker ages, etc) for a mid-50s guy (married) seeking an hour or two of casual conversation and a few drinks?
