New Parking Regulations on Jay and Plymouth Streets
December 19th, 2008

Alternate-side parking regulations are suspended today in NYC due to the snowstorm. The City Council passed a bill to make the practice law yesterday, just in time for the storm today. Also, there have been a few parking changes in the past day or two in Dumbo and Vinegar Hill. In addition to some of the changes made on Front Street in late November, the following streets have updated parking regulations:
- Plymouth between Jay and Bridge used to be No Parking M-F 8am-6pm and now is No Parking Friday 8-6pm (on the South side of the street).
- Plymouth between Bridge and Gold used to have No Parking signs (unlimited parking) and now is No Parking Friday 8am-6pm (on the South side of the street).
- Jay Street between Front and York Street used to have No Parking M-F 8am-6pm and has become a No Standing Anytime block on the West (or J Condo) side.
There may be other changes being made by the Department of Transportation based on the Community Board 2 vote in October. If there are others, please let us know.

Was it really necessary to remove parking on Jay between York and Front? This really sucks.

Probably done to give some space to the “shared” bike lane. I find it hilarious that there is one bike stand in front of J Condo, just one.

Anybody notice the bike path signs when you are coming down Washington after the left at the light as you approach York? It goes right down the middle of the street! Ridiculous!

What was more spaces?
-jay between york and front
-The green triangle (water/anchorage/pearl) which used to be parking?
Take a hint, they want you to pay to put your car in a garage.

I think it is the BID behind the removal of parking in the neighborhood. But, if residents banded together and appealled to Community Board #2 to increase street parking in DUMBO, they could probably get it. And it probably is a desire to get people to pay for parking here. All the other neighborhoods are getting increased street parking- and changing street cleaning regs from three days a week to one. But, if CB#2 (and Dept, of Transportation) don’t hear from residents, we’ll keep losing more and more street parking.
