Maybe the city should suspend alt side of street parking when these film companies decide to block off the streets. Besides, anyone ever see a street cleaner between 12 and 3 AM?

I'm not against movies being filmed in Dumbo. But lately the number seems excessive. There is another shoot today and parking is taken away on Main & Water Streets. That is the 4th shoot this week. Seems like a major imposition on a neighborhood of this size, with no real return for the residents and businesses. Maybe if the film company was required to make a contribution to the Dumbo Improvement District, or something like that, it would seem less intrusive.

I like all the filming. I get a kick out of watching movies and all of a sudden seeing dumbo in there. Like Scent of a Woman - had no idea the part with the ferrari was in dumbo till saw it again for first time in like 10 years a few weeks ago.

Three shoots in one week is excessive. You can go to www.nyc.gov/film and click the "Contact Us" link to fill out a complaint form. Something needs to be done to control the number of shoots in the neighborhood.

Anyone can file a complaint at The Mayor's Office of Film, Theater and Broadcasting by visiting this link:

http://www.nyc.gov/html/film/html/home/contact_moftb.shtml

I filed a complaint during the filming of 'Pelham 123' when my car was relocated to an illegal spot and then towed by the city to the Brooklyn Navy Yard.

All fees were waived but it cost me a full day's work and the usual aggravation of being forced to deal with the city's bureaucratic morass.

I did receive a rather prompt reply from a representative that was willing to help rectify the situation to the best of her abilities but I managed to get it done before it came to that.

We live in a wonderfully cinematic neighborhood and I welcome the individuals who recognize that and want to use this area as the backdrop for their film projects.

I think the bigger problem is the fact that available parking has actually been eliminated (2 hr. restrictions on Front St. for example that used to be overnight alternate side)and along Jay St.

What were 'they' thinking?

I used to work in production in LA and many neighborhoods there were able to limit the amount of shoot days in their area. Ie) some areas of Pasadena would only allow two shoot days a month... Also, some of the highly sought after locations could get a small kick to a neighborhood organization, but that is very rare and would never be more than a couple hundred dollars as a courtesy. If a business feels that they are suffering from a shoot they should reach out to the location manager. Compensation is again very rare, but they may have crew patronize the store or restaurant to bring in a little business. Basically, a production gets the permit and is free to run wild within that location. The main focus is getting the shots, not the impact they have on the neighborhood, but there is an understanding that they are guests and should act accordingly.
Not sure what, if any, restrictions can be lobbied for in NYC but I agree, this is getting out of hand.

The community, which has to deal with this disruption on a regular basis, should get some kind of direct compensation. Does the community have the authority to impose an independent fee on large film crews?

DUMBO has always been a hot spot for filming. In the past, because residents complained about the excessive filming in the neighborhood, the Mayor's Office of Film put DUMBO in a blackout, meaning that films could not be shot here for a year. If you don't like it, complain to that office. This is really messing up parking, I agree. The Dumbo BID should work with DOT to get more street parking.

I don't think so. I own a business here and the film crews are disruptive every time they're here. I not only have no say and receive no compensation of any kind, but also get to lose money I'd make in a normal day conducting business.

I agree that occassionally is fine, but this is getting ridiculous.

This is really screwing up parking in the neighborhood. Two filming at the same time is ridiculous.

Two simultaneously? Am I the only one who feels this is getting excessive? Once in awhile, cool. Several times weekly? Invasive and annoying.
