But lately the number seems excessive. There is another shoot today and parking is taken away on Main & Water Streets. That is the 4th shoot this week. Seems like a major imposition on a neighborhood of this size, with no real return for the residents and businesses. Maybe if the film company was required to make a contribution to the Dumbo Improvement District, or something like that, it would seem less intrusive. I’m not against movies being filmed in Dumbo. I get a kick out of watching movies and all of a sudden seeing dumbo in there. Like Scent of a Woman - had no idea the part with the ferrari was in dumbo till saw it again for first time in like 10 years a few weeks ago. I like all the filming. If a business feels that they are suffering from a shoot they should reach out to the location manager. Compensation is again very rare, but they may have crew patronize the store or restaurant to bring in a little business. Basically, a production gets the permit and is free to run wild within that location. The main focus is getting the shots, not the impact they have on the neighborhood, but there is an understanding that they are guests and should act accordingly. Not sure what, if any, restrictions can be lobbied for in NYC but I agree, this is getting out of hand.
