5 Boro Bike Tour 2008
May 5th, 2008
30,000 bicyclists came through Dumbo on Front Street yesterday in the annual 5 Boro Bike Tour. The tour began in Battery Park and ended in Staten Island in the 42 mile event through New York City.

Sounds like NIMBY to me. One day a year, a few hours, signs posted ahead of time and you still can’t make an accommodation?
I wish they’d change the route of the Marathon so I can cross the road when I want to every fall!! Gimme my rights!!

The signs simply said “no parking” not “street closed to cross traffic”.

I’ve been a marshal for a number of years and was even hit once standing on the Verezano Bridge. I find that a “herd” or maybe “slow stampede” mentality develops when there are large groups of riders.
I wonder where they learned this? Maybe while driving their cars; especially on highways. There the mentality is “the road is mine- get off it or die…pidgeon, cat, raccoon, deer, bicyclist, etc.
The no parking sign comment is definitely valid.
