i think it was at the superfine bldg, 82 Pearl, and not J Condo… but what do I know….

J Condo was not on fire. It was the building next door that houses Superfine. The FD used a saw to open a vent in that building. The saw gave off sparks that caught some of the cardboard left out for recycling at J Condo, but the FD was there hosing it the whole time.

Ok, since I live in that building and could see it from my window, I think I have the authority to say it was very clearly the pile of TRASH from the J Condo including a box spring sending flames to the second floor window. There was NO fire at 81 Pearl, only smoke which set off the sprinklers. The FD was in the building to make sure it hadn’t spread or that there was any carbon monoxide.

Sorry S., but my persepctive was from J Condo looking toward your building. The FD was cutting with a saw at a vent at the Pearl St. building. The saw sent of metal sparks . . . which did set on firesome of J Condo’s cardboard set out for recycling. There was smoke billowing out of the Pearl St. building from this vent. I believe that the Pearl St. building was the original source of smoke.

The fire was from J condos recycling. Several tenants at 81 pearl had asked The chief super at J condo “Tony” to do something about it, That was months ago and he has been totally unresponsive. Calls to Lisa management have never been returned. The gallery owners have also complained To J Condo. You J Condoites should address the smug attitude of the people who I believe work for you.

P.S. the reason they were cutting into the gallery window is because the excessive heat had gone through that vent and set off two sprinkler heats.

If J Condo is handling its recylcling in an inappropriate fashion, call the Department of Sanitation.
And the sawing was going on before the cardboard caught fire.

sorry, but you are wrong. I called in one of the 911 last night and spent 30 min. with 2 fire marshalls this morning. I was also in the gallery and saw the damage and how it moved through the wall vent The fire was almost out when thy started cutting and it simply restarted the fire in the remaining cardboard. Yes, we should call Sanitation. Just trying to solve problems with neighbors face to face is obviously futile.

wait, i confused. Were there two fires? The first one in the Superfine building, then in the process of putting that out, the FD caused the second fire outside in the J condo trash? With all the blaming of J condo for leaving out trash, I couldn’t really figure out what actually happened and in what order.

You guys have it all wrong. It was smokey and cracky that started it. I think cracky dropped her crackpipe.

Talked to Sanitation (officer Murphy) this morning and was told that since the garbage is on private property there is nothing they can do. J Condo can continue to heap their garbage against the building nest door. I don’t understand how a 21st century building has a 19th century sensibility about garbage disposal. As a neighbor of J Condo I appeal to the condo owners to do the “right thing” and bring this issue to the attention of William Clark at Lisa Management. It is the neighborly thing to do.

the fire started under the garbage of the J condo. The flames went up towards the ground floor window of spring and entered into the space going towards the upper floor. the sprinklers went off and the fire department came. the fire report states that they (quote) arrived to find a large rubbish fire up against the side of 126 front st, with possible extension to the building (unquote) and it is being investigated.
the large garbage heap was behind the security gate of the J Condo.
you may have found your sarcastic moment of glory on a sad thread, but we lost out - seriously.

To clarify: the FDNY responded to a rubbish fire. The fire was located in the garbage against the wall of the building. The fire transmitted through a window grate into the art gallery, which activated the sprinkler system inside the building. There was charring from the window up to the ceiling of the room.
