Arrest of Three Men in Vinegar Hill Last Night

Our Vinegar Hill correspondent witnessed the arrest of three young men in front of 206 Front Street last night at approximately 9pm. They were not there to see what the men did, but saw a police car with two officers called to the scene to put the three men in custody. Three additional officers who were on duty patrolling the streets were there. Several people have commented on this site that they have noticed an increased presence of police officers and cars patrolling Dumbo and Vinegar Hill after several muggings were reported last week and residents started calling the 84th Precinct and David Yassky’s office (718-875-5200). One of the victims shared his story last week and another comment reported a separate incident in Vinegar Hill by “a group of kids”.

    Can you please describe in detail your memories of riding the yellow mini bus to your 'happy' place? And here I thought that my tax dollars were being wasted on these special needs schools but clearly you are a shining example that they are actually turning out brilliant individuals. Mike, I'm officially designating you my special needs poster boy. Instead of challenging your awe-inspiring intellect, in the future I'm going to recommend that the entire community simply respond with the following message of support:

    "Yay mikenyc, yay". Or in the alternative, "Its okay mikenyc, you're good enough, you're smart enough, and doggonit, people like you." (okay, its a total lift from Stuart but it works so well here, don't you think?)

    Fabrication?

    Any of you who doubt what happened to me are welcome to pay my fabricated hospital bills and my fabricated doctor bills. You're perfectly welcome to come over and look at the fabricated hole in my cheek where my teeth were punched through. You're perfectly welcome to come over and look me in my still-swollen face. You can look at the fabricated CAT scan showing an orbital fracture. You're perfectly welcome to my fabricated bloody clothing and the fabricated pictures of me in the emergency room.

    For those of you who allegedly asked the police about this, I'd suggest you talk to the actual investigators who interviewed me—I'll be happy to hook you up. And commenter DOT is correct. I never said it was a pipe. I don't know what it was. I never saw it coming. For all I know it was a dude with a really, really good punch who knocked me out.

    I'm not trying to be a martyr here. I am just fine and soon this will just be a bad memory. But the suggestion that this incident didn't happen lands somewhere between absurd and offensive.

    I think the use of the word "fabrication" makes it appear is if the victim was lying about what happened. In the victim's own words:

    "According to witnesses, one of them whacked me in the head with a pipe and I was out cold, then the others pounced on."

    He did not say a pipe was defintely used, he said that's what witnesses told him. He didn't know what hit him... could have been anything. Read his full account of the incident again.

    Please re-read my commment. I never said there was a statement. I spoke to the police officers after the meeting. There were 4 of us who asked about the alleged "pipe" incident. I didn't say that there weren't any violent assaults just that I was told that the pipe incident was a fabrication. I have known one of the police officers for several years and he's always been very honest with me. I wouldn't post it here unless I believed it.

    I was at the meeting too, and the captain confirmed that there were two violent robbery/assaults in the neighborhood last week, and he downplayed the severity of the incidents. There was never a statement that the more severe incident was a fabrication, although the captain implied that there had been some inflated rumors circulating through the community. He revealed very few details about that incident, except to confirm that the first attack was carried out by 3 men, and the second by 5 or 6.

    (And no, that was not me in the smiley face suspenders.)

    I was just at the precinct meeting and spoke to the officers regarding the pipe assault. According to the police this is a fabrication and not an a true incident.

    This is probably connected to the mugging that occurred outside of Peas & Pickles two Saturday evenings ago. I was in P&P last week when a detective came in, asking to view the store's security camera footage for the previous Saturday night. He mentioned that the mugging was committed by three males.
