New Retail: Dog Boutique and Kitchenware Shop Opens on Water Street
February 20th, 2008
Two new street level retailers have opened up on Water Street (between Pearl and Jay Street). The first one is called DiDi’s Dog Boutique. The owner, Sonia, named her pet boutique after her Chihuahua, Didi (literally Chinese for “little brother”). She grew up adopting unwanted dogs that roamed the streets of Taiwan, and cared for every one of them as if they were her own kids. She also imports her pet clothes from manufacturers she personally visits to ensure quality and safety for the pet. She calls each of her pets a ‘family member’ and is looking forward to meeting other pets and people in the neighborhood. She opened her first store on Bowery Street in the Lower East Side.

Also opened up next to Didi’s Dog Boutique is Leader Trading Company, a retailer that offers chinaware, cookware and restaurant equipment. Since they source directly from the manufacturer, we saw that their prices were low. There’s a wide range of Asian kitchen and dining items for the home. They are also a family business owned by Sonia’s husband’s family. Welcome to Dumbo and best wishes!

I’m psyched about Didi’s. Been to the original Chinatown store many times. Excellent unique merchandise and so inexpensive compared to the usual pet store rip-off.

great new additions to the area - Lots of luck to Sonia and family. Leasder Supply is a great business and they have very useful products.

Oops :( I meant LEADER, L-E-A-D-E-R Supply.
I have been going to Leader on Bowery between Spring and Delancey for years. You can’t go to Leader and walk out without something useful and resonably priced for the kitchen. Especially if you like preparing and serving asian dishes.

do they have a tandoori chicken oven? I hope so. I really like Indian food, especially that new place on the corner of Front and Jay. The service is a bit slow but the prices are great and the food is, how you say? “Yummy”.

the one with the eviction notice? needs some new decor but the chicken has lots of bones in it!
- I’m sorry, too many martinis this afternoon. I am a fan of D-Marachesh.

Dear Mr. “Jordan”
If that’s your real name, it has come to our attention that you were in our neighborhood without paying. I know the real Timothy Gordan and I don’t think he would be caught dead in a trashy, pretentous place like Dumpo. Anyway, the point is, send me a check for $10 and I’ll ignore your transgression, whoever you are.
