New Marrakesh Express Restaurant

Marrakesh Express

As discussed earlier last week, the new Marrakesh Express awning is up. They’re revamping the restaurant and based on many of the comments, the Indian dishes are tasty and worth a try. Commenter Anna says:

“i know the guys who run the place. they are extremely hard working, honest good people who had very limited funds and a dream and they are trying to make it work. they are longtime dumbo residents and musicians. these are the kind of businesses we should support in dumbo. these guys are the real thing. would you all rather have a starbucks in that place? or a low key joint with excellent, cheap fresh food?”

From their website, marrakeshexpressny.com, they are now open from 6am to 10pm and deliver free to anywhere in the neighborhood (up to 15 blocks). “Our owners have more than 16 years of industry experience. We saw an opportunity for the restaurant and decided to open. We are located on the corner of Front Street and Jay Street under the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridge in the Dumbo neighborhood.”

    Indian?….

    Marrake”c”h…not Marrake”s”h is in Africa.

So where is the Morrocan food?

If they alter their menu by adding a few Tagine dishes, Couscous and a few other basics they can easily be partially true to their name.

  2. omac Says:

Actually, it can be spelled either way. Like Osama/Usama, it’s a transliteration from Arabic. As long as you get the sounds right, it will work. Do a Google search and see how many spellings you will come up with.

Not sure about the food question, though.

  3. Yummy Says:

I ate the buffet today for lunch. Pretty yummy. Welcome addition to the neighborhood. Nice little unique setup there.

  4. rula lenska Says:

Obviously nobody eats here very often. Its 12:30 Wednesday and your precious Indian/African restuarant has an eviction notice on the door. Repo’ed by the owner. Don’t worry you can still get the runs across the street if you want to go slummin’

    Uh,
After reading about this place all week, I made a trip to go check out the curry and naan … and it was closed down at like 5:30PM. Lame, no?

  6. rula lenska Says:

    are you retarded.

  7. VH Says:

I guess the food was not ‘yummy’ enough.

    LOL VH

  9. Jessica Says:

I overheard that the old owner of the space didn’t pay the bills for sometime. Since the current tennants are subleasing, they’ve been evicted. That’s the reason this business is shut down temporarily.

I really hope they work out these legal issues soon, as these guys really deserve better than this. Plus, we will all miss the yummy Indian food.

    Best of Luck Marrakesh Express!

  10. loose stool Says:

subtenants have no legal standing whatsoever. It will go to the deepest pocket. Looks like Starbucks is coming to East dumbo.

  11. Jason Says:

What’s with Rula Lenska’s comments? Kind of a tool, no?

  12. Stop Biting My Handle Says:

    rula lenska is a hammer

  13. Rula Lenska Says:

there is a tendency to fawn over that which is leftover from Dumbo before it was “discovered”. politically correct multiculturalism requires us to support underfinanced 3rd world restaurants no matter how bad they may be. I feel sorry for these guys but it was inevitable they would be gone. I moved here 20 years and don’t begrudge those who moved here last year, we are ALL part of death of Dumbo as we knew it.

  14. dumbowner Says:

Rula Lenska is not even Rula Lenska - Like we said before - we know the real Rula Lenska and she lives in London not in Dumbo. This tool basically acknowledged he (yes, he) was using this woman’s name without her permission.

  15. VH Says:

Well that’s a shame. I had hopes to see her walking the hood with her Alberto VO5 treatment. Do we have any other celeb’s living in DUMBO?

  16. loose stool Says:

    veruscka

I haven’t seen her in a while. I think she was on Plymouth soewhere

  17. DUMBOer Says:

Busta Rhymes lives in J Condo. I believe Mos Def also lives in the neighborhood.
