Now officially known as the DUMBO Historic District, the neighborhood was voted by the Landmarks Preservation Commission yesterday. Simeon Bankoff, the Executive Director of The Historic Districts Council, the city wide advocate for New York’s historic districts sent us the below photos during the designation meeting yesterday:

    yeah !! no more ugly Condo’s like the J Condo.

    Given that there was a parking lot where J condo was built, I don’t think landmarking would have stopped it. And since Dock street isn’t in the landmarked area, I don’t think this will stop Waletnas’ project either.

    And to each his own, I think seeing the sky reflected in the mirrored glass of J condo on a sunny day is quite beautiful. At least you aren’t left staring at a brick wall with no windows like the Beacon.

    i agree with anon, and just like the song “pave paradise, and put up a parking lot”, Dumbo has turned back time and we have our own little shangrila called J Dumpo. Huzzah!!
