Hurry and Get Your Dumbo Fight Night Tickets (+Rumor?)

Reminder to get your tickets asap for tickets to one of Dumbo’s biggest event, Dumbo Fight Night this Thursday. The event is a unique combination of creativity, food, and fun that will involve Dumbo’s cultural and arts groups as well as open bar and food provided by Dumbo’s Rice. No other neighborhood improvement district has an event that includes all these plus involvement of the residential buildings. Aside from those things, there’s some sort of a rumor about David Walentas and a dunk tank. If this rumor is true, that alone is worth the admission!

Please join us to see the ingenuity and creativity of DUMBO cultural groups, Bargemusic, Brooklyn Bodega, White Wave Dance Co., powerHouse arena, Brooklyn Arts Council, and Galapagos, as they adapt their repertoires for performance pieces within the confines of the boxing ring. The event program finishes with USABoxingMetro sanctioned matches as Junior Champions from Gleason’s Gym take to the ring!

Other festivities include a Silent Auction, free food and beverages provided by Rice, and gallery space curated by Smack Mellon.

    David Walentas is cosponsoring this event to save Dumbo's cobblestones? You mean the same cobblestones as those on Plymouth Street that he was tearing up until the City gave him a stop work order?

    David Walentas controls the BID, or the strangely named, Dumbo Improvement District (just so we don't get turned off by the really name - BUSINESS Improvement District)
    I guess Belgian Block (aka conbblestone) streets are good for business to sell a neighborhood's charm & historic appeal, but not so good for a greedy landlord that doesn't feel like paying the extra insurance when he is opening new commercial spaces on Plymouth Street.

    I'm confused. I've been reading a lot about this, but it's not very clear. Why is the BID using the phrase "Fight to Preserve DUMBO" when the BID is controlled by Two Trees and Guttman? They are lobbying against the preservation of Dumbo artifacts, which include the Belgian Blocks and the old industrial buildings. How can anyone be against preserving Dumbo? On the other hand, I thought the DNA's mission is to preserve Dumbo. Are they not part of this fundraiser? Can anyone explain? Who should we as residents support to keep Dumbo a vibrant and creative community inspired by our streetscapes and history?

    that "All of the money raised..." paragraph is very vague. I'm as cynical and confused as the above posters.

    Walentas is relentless! This is a sham event. There is a good cartoon sending him up in this week's Village Voice.

    Yes, he is relentless. This was a big sham. Has nothing to do with preserving anything, he just wants to confuse the public into believing that he and his posse are for preservation. Ask him about Dock Street and the school and then ask him why he has thrown out the schools that rent from him in his other buildings. In the past they publicly voiced their distaste for schools and are now pretending to be concerned with education.

    This is a scam. Two Trees is disgusting. They tried to put one of their own employees which they abuse on the dunk tank. They even threatened him with his job. If they really want to make money, they should put one of the Walentas on the dunk tank. Father or son.

    I think Walentas the senior did appear in the tank. I believe I saw the photo on Curbed.

    I wish I were there to see it. Too bad I just wont have anything to do with those people. They really are disgusting and never do anything that they won't profit from.
