Rental of the Day: 2 Bed 2 Bath, 84 Front Street
August 1st, 2007

Spotted this 2 bedroom, 2 bath rental at 84 Front Street (aka The Nexus) for $3980 on Craigslist today. It’s 1093 sq ft with a 50 sq ft balcony, designer kitchen and bath. Compared that to other 2 bedrooms in the area, this one is a relative bargain. 2 bedroom, 2 baths at 133 Water Street range $4600 - $4900 per month and 99 Gold Street range $4600 - $5200 per month. There’s an open house this Sun, August 5th 2-3pm 3:30 - 4pm [Open house time was changed]. If anyone happens to go, let us know what you think.

Is this the going rate for DUMBO rentals? $2000/mo/bedroom? I can find rentals for less than that in Manhattan!!?!

hm, not newly built “luxury” buildings which some people seem to find desirable.

My old sh***y 2 bedroom rental in the East Village with less than 500 sq. feet of space, in a poorly maintained tenement building with no amenities other than a common deck for garbage, is now back on the market at a shocking $3200 a month.
Socal, what 2 bedroom / 2 bath apt. can you find for $2000 a month in Manhattan?

Wow I rent out my place on 42 Main 1330 sq ft. w/ a 15sq ft terrace for $3500.00. At least I can sleep at night since I’m not robbing people blind.

If you look on Citihabitats, searching on 2 bedroom rentals in Manhattan, there are approx 200 rentals at $4000 or less:
citi-habitats.com/showrentals.php. Why would I want to leave Manhattan for more?

Socal, the problem is you still think people living in Brookyln have no choice because they can’t afford Manhattan. Believe it or not, some people actually Choose to live in Brooklyn. I lived in Manhattan for year’s and decided to make the switch to Brooklyn because I love the vibe and wanted a change… and I have no desire to move back. As for the price tag of a rental in dumbo… I wouldn’t pay $4000 for anything I don’t own… even in Manhattan, but that’s just me.

Peter,
Collecting way below market rent helps you sleep at night? You need to get out of the landlord business. Become a social worker.

Did anyone check out the open house for this rental?
