Dumbo Improvement District Year 1
June 5th, 2007
Last month, the Dumbo Improvement District (’Dumbo BID’) marked one year of operations. The BID have accomplished several projects in the past year, and have many large projects in progress. They have made several visual neighborhood improvements, such as street cleaning, sewer work to prevent flooding, installation of lighting, trees, and sidewalks, street patrols, Belgian Block Preservation, and installation of a mobile post office. The Dumbo BID have also spotlighted Dumbo in various marketing campaigns:
- Getting featured on NYC Department of Small Business Services Next Stop: NYC marketing campaign
- Launched a quarterly newsletter and website (www.dumbonyc.org)
- Planned Special Events – Inaugurated several events (with various partners and sponsors) including the First Annual Dumbo Holiday Family Party, Dumbo Kid’s Disco Christmas and Brooklyn Bridge Park Holiday Lighting Ceremony, the First Thursday gallery walk, as well as neighborhood block parties.
The BID is also working on their major initiatives, which I described in a post in March. I’ve sent in several requests/concerns to the BID (street work, parking, etc) and they have taken the issues seriously, so I encourage you to do the same. I look forward to more updates from the BID in year 2, and will get periodic updates from the Executive Director, Tucker Reed (and his staff).
