A few Dumbo retail news:
- 20 Jay Street: According to neighborhoodies.com, they’re planning a retail store on 20 Jay Street: “Our newest store opens June 1st on Jay Street in Brooklyn! As you can see we already took out a former concrete wall on the exterior and fit it with another glass front. … Notice too the progress in clearing the interior. …We’ll keep adding photos as work progresses…” Neighborhoodies is headquartered in Dumbo on 45 Main Street.
- 14 Jay Street: Aswoon/Susan Woods (www.aswoon.com) is going to be opening a store/showroom at the corner of Jay & John Streets at 14 Jay Street.
- 20 Jay Street: A doggy day care will open on Plymouth Street in 20 Jay Street building. All dog owners in the neighborhood will have a place for their dogs to be pampered.
- 67 Washington Street: The Two Trees Real Estate office and their new website, twotreesre.com is open for business. Previously reported on March 29 here on DumboNYC.
- 70 Washington Street: There’s some activity on the retail level in this building on the Front Street side across the street from Bo Concepts. Drywall has been put in and the space is being cleared out. No word yet on what this will become. Stay tuned…

Man….when are we going to get some useful retail? You know we have problems here when we all get excited because a chase bank is going to open on Front St.
Please, no more stores devoted to “hip” clothing and over-priced home decor.
When is the drug-store going to open? I need a toothbrush.

I’m hoping for some more restaurants.

I am friendly with an Orthodox family in the neighborhood who said they are opening a DUMBO Chabad House on Jay Street across from Bridge Fresh. This is in one of the 2 vacant store fronts in a Guttman bldg there (I assume he is the sponsor).

awesome. neighborhoodies has been in dumbo since 2002; it’s great they’re opening up a storefront.

how about decent take out. A noodle or dumpling shop would make the owner rich.

Yes, please bring some more food options. Chinese? Thai? Burgers? Chicken? Something! More importantly, bring food venues for the everyday joe. Everything opening up is “high-end” and over priced. Sometimes I just want some take-out… and not $20 takeout.
Same goes for clothing stores… bring more! Particularly affordable ones. At least neighborhoodies appears to be affordable… will be a great addition to the neighborhood.
Oh yeah… and no more furniture stores.

Completely agreed. Dumbo NEEDS more restaurants. What about a pizza place where you’d want to hang out and not feel rushed? Or a place like Shake Shack, Dumont Burger, Dumpling House, Noodle Pudding. Food that’s good enough to wait for, not expensive, and a somewhat ‘hidden gem’ so that it’s not too crowded.

DUMBO could use a staples or some other sort of office/art supply store. I dont need any more restaurants. Jimmis is the best!

For the person craving Chinese, try Fortune House in Brooklyn Heights. Delivery time is less than 10 mins and it’s good/cheap. I would love a dumpling or noodle place, that’s a great idea. Perhaps a DUMBO outpost of Rickshaw or Momofuku Noodle House?
