I read with interest the above messages. Most were very nice, and nostalgic. I am also a proud resident of youngstown Ohio 44504. Yes I still live in the area, and proud of it!! Youngstown Ohio is a wonderful place to live (still). Yes many have left the area,to become snow birds. I believe that is what they are called. But many, I must say, come back, because as I say, Youngstown Oh. is a very special place. The people who live here, have what is known as “HEART” We here in Youngstown, care about people. Most of us who live here, will always lend a helping hand, for whatever is he cause. Yes, Jane has done a wonderful job restoring Our precious IDORA PARK CAROUSEL. iT HAD TO BE A LABOR OF LOVE ON HER PART. But we here in Youngstown, would take “her” back in a second. Tears come to the surface, when I remember the beautiful carousel, in all her glory. spinning around, with the music playing. These are my memories, I lived it, I enjoyed riding that beautiful ride. Even my grandma would ride in the coach. I would sometimes sit with her. Mostly I chose the lead horse. I liked how he looked. So many memories, and all of them great, except when the Idora Carousel was sold. I could not attend, on the last day that Idora was opened. It was too painful. In many ways it still is. Especially when I read, how Our Idora Carousel is not really wanted in NY. Here it is being given as a gift to the people in NY, and it is not even wanted, or appreciated. Well I say ” send Idora back home to Youngstown Ohio” we want her here. I know Jane loves her also, but truly ” Idora” belongs here in Youngstown, her original home…her real home. Not someplace where she is not wanted.
Lets here it folks, for bringing our Idora Carousel back home to Youngstown Ohio Thank You

those of who are from youngstown and go to see it in new york dont care that much if we can ride it or not, yea it would be nice, but just being able to see it again after 26 years is good enough. we all have so many wonderful memories of it and idora park, so i thank jane for what she as done with it and for the people of youngstown, ohio so shut the hell up with all the nasty remarks!!!!!!!!!!!!

im from youngstown, ohio and i rode that carousel many times as a kid when it was at idora park. im going to new york this fall and can't wait to see it and ride it. it will be like seeing an old friend.

I am from Youngstown and it is wonderful to see the beautiful carousel finally restored – thank you for all your work, it looks lovely. We would like to plan a trip to NY to see it. What is the charge to view the carousel and are we able to photograph it to show the folks back home? How are plans coming to place it in Brooklyn Bridge Park so that it can be rode again? I have two children and would love for them to ride it someday. thanks so much, Linda

I bet that there would be maintenance and insurance costs the park might not want to deal with as well.

I assume some kind of deal had to be struck in that area as well.

Excuse my snark, but you commented with such venom about something you apparently knew nothing about. I thought you were just being a smart ass. If you knew anything about the carousel you’d know that Jane has been fighting to have the carousel in the park plans for years. It isn’t just a showpiece. And as anon mentions above, the intention was to allow children to ride it in the current space but there were safety concerns with doing so. The bid to include the carousel in the park was finally successful this year, in part thanks to visitors having access to simply view the carousel… garnering support from the thousands who’ve simply seen it.

I can’t believe I’m defending a flying Walentas but from what I understand she wants people to ride it but can’t get the permit because the horses come too close to the walls. Not enough clearance if a kid goes flying.
And, it is a cool thing to restore it and donate it to the park. Was kind of disturbed that the park didn’t want it. Glad someone came to their senses. Wish we could get a pool in the deal now.

I stand corrected! According to the website, the carousel will be open for rides in the park in December 2010! Kids will get to go round and round while sucking on icicles hanging from the roof! Time will tell, however

Please clarify, what doesn’t make sense, my post or a Carousel that NO ONE can ride? What is the purpose of a carousel? Enlighten me. Seems to me that showing off one’s posession amounts to self glorifying egoism. What’s the point of a carousel if no one can ride? This is like grandma covering the sofa and chairs with plastic.

Also, the name is RabbitTurd, not ‘re’turd, your cleverness is of a rank amature. Now go worship the rich and gawk at their unrideable toys.
