Just moved into a unit in the lower third of the building six weeks ago and as a commercial real estate owner myself, am quite impressed with the level of detail the developers provided in the units and common areas.

This is not to say that there are no problems (for every new development has problems), however, there are punchlist items that need to be addressed.

For you other Beaconers, keep you eye on some small things like unfinished granite counters, cracked grouting, and resetting A/C units.

For the blogger who asked if the windows open, yes, they open just like any other window. And, to note, they are designed to filter in fresh air when they are closed, all without any outside noise.

I didn't mean to imply that the BT windows can not actually be opened; I don't know but I certainly hope they can be. Rather, I was saying that many residents may not _want_ to open them because of noise outside.

Is that true? Are the windows really not openable at the beacon? It's shame if that's the case. J Condo was able to achieve a noise free environment with windows that can be opened.

My post was written in a cranky mood. I take back the word "blight." And I'm sure some of the views are great. Still, how can anyone live by the water and not enjoy the breezes?

Adam,

Agreed! Every post from a Beacon buyer says the exact same thing. High ceilings, loft like etc. and they're quite pleased to be living in a hermetically sealed apartment. Personally, I don't get it. To each his own I suppose....

Is Lindsay's post satire? Do most BT owners just really love TV and A/C?

Give me raw space with creaky old floors and giant windows (that you can open!) over this new construction blight any day.

My parents recenetly moved into Beacon Towers 5 days ago. I am a student that lives in the east village and I absolutely love the building. Whenever I go there, I don't want to leave. The view is pricessless and the appliances are really wonderful. It is so quite inside you can't even hear the train go by and our apartment is on the Manhattan bridge side where it is the most noisy. I wish the gym had a TV though!

I have to agree with everyone else. The units are wonderful. Despite all the hassles leading up to the move in, they did a great job with the actual spaces. The finishes are just as expected, and the tall ceilings and big windows make the units feel open and big. I live on the bridge side of the building, and the windows do an incredible job blocking the sound. I can watch the train go by and only notice the sound if I have my tv off and I'm trying to listen for it. The gym and the 22nd floor roof deck are open. The roof deck has spectacular views.

I have heard that the apartments are beautiful in your building, but am wondering how you feel about the noise when you open your windows? Is it bearable?
