Dumbo resident Joseph Padula can be seen around Dumbo’s Jacque Torres or at Retreat, but when he’s not enjoying Dumbo’s local treats and bars, he maintains an apartment cleaning and organizing business. Joseph is a specialist in organizing and cleaning your space. We heard about Joseph’s quality work from several residents in Dumbo who mentioned Joseph’s professionalism and quality service. As if he weren’t busy enough, Joseph is also a full time student studying to be a dentist. We caught up with him this week:

Tell us about yourself and what you do.

My name is Joseph Padula. I am a 23 year old full time student currently living in Dumbo. I grew up on Long Island and moved to Brooklyn three years ago to attend Brooklyn College. I work part time cleaning apartments in the neighborhood. I would like to say I am a Cleaning Specialist or an ‘Apartment Maintainer’ who specializes in organization and cleaning services within the apartment.

How long have you lived in Dumbo? What brought you here?

I have been living in Dumbo for about a year. I moved into 70 Washington Street in February, 2006. Dumbo is an extremely fascinating neighborhood and has a TON of charm. When I discovered the neighborhood for the first time three years ago I knew it was a gem that was in the process of being polished. I knew from that point I had to live here!

Tell me about your service business. Who are your clients? What do you enjoy about it?

I specialize in cleaning apartments with a detail oriented mind and knowledge of the amenities within them. My current clients are many people that live within my building. So far I have had great success in the building and have a very satisfied clientele. I have recently decided that I want to begin to expand my services within the neighborhood and take it to the next level.

I enjoy many things about my job. For starters, I enjoy reviving or renewing things. That’s why I call myself an apartment maintainer or cleaning specialist. I enjoy going into an apartment and knowing that when I leave, my client will come home that night and feel GREAT about their home. I have a high level of care and pay great detail to one’s apartment. I treat it as if it was my own place.

What do you like to do around Dumbo?

Dumbo is a great place to live. I love to head over to Retreat to grab a bite to eat and to relax upstairs in the lounge area. I also enjoy going to the park when the weather permits. It also does not hurt to sneak a visit to Jacque Torres :)

What are your career plans?

I am currently enrolled in a Pre-dental program at Brooklyn College. My plan is to become a dentist one day. I have been working as a certified dental assistant for almost seven years. I love the dental business but recently the cleaning gig has really picked up for me and it is really forgiving and easy to manage with a school schedule. I am also interested in possibly starting up my own skin care line.
