Beacon Tower Turns Off Some Lights
January 23rd, 2007
One week after I wrote about the bright lights on the patios of the 18th floor at Beacon Tower, the building shut off the lights on the south side. (Not pictured is the north side patio on the 20th floor balcony is still lit.) Maybe they were concerned about the migrating geese, global warming, or concerned residents, but they deserve some kudos for responding so quickly.
Since residents won’t have to foot the electric bill for the lights on one side, maybe the building can use the money saved to commission a local artist similar to what J Condo is doing or bring back Between the Bridges Bar (you know, that neighborhood bar that used to occupy the space where Beacon Tower is now) in their retail space to give something back to the community. Don’t count on those, but maybe resident’s maintenance bills can come down a bit.

Beacon Tower A Diamond in the Rough
I have to say with all the bad press and haters, the building is coming together nicely. I went to check out several apartments for sale in Dumbo and after seeing and hearing (trains/BQE) Beacon Tower comes out on top. The fixtures and kitchens blow away the competition (A+) the layouts are just ok (B-) however the real standout were the windows and how you dont hear the trains go by nor the expressway across the street (A+++) It was amazing… See for yourself .. compare with 70 wash and J condo… and you will agree..

that funny cause jcondo hasn’t let anyone view the units yet, what is your comparison based on?

That’s great about the sound proof windows. I’ll never understand though why anyone would want to never open their windows for a little fresh air. Although I suppose if one lived near the water street warehouse with the asbestos disposal issue I could understand….

The J Condo windows open… I’m sure the Beacon’s do, too. I don’t know why anyone would NEVER open them; you can have either outside air or quiet, just not both simultaneously…

It looks like a temporary c/o was finally issued last week. I wonder when closing will start happening?

85 Adams is much nicer inside than out. Jcondo the opposite of the two 85 is quieter. Much quieter than 70 Washington.
