Nice article, but perhaps the Wonk manager was mis-quoted at the end of the article? The land that J Condo sits on was a parking lot prior to construction. Perhaps Mr. Siewert was speaking about his own building (68 Jay) where there are currently tons of artist studio’s… even though that building has not gone condo (yet).

I was confused about that quote too. Maybe the land where J Condo sits now had artists studios before the parking lot.

Wonk is in 68 Jay where Guttman is renovating the building floor by floor and raising the rents to the point where the artists can’t afford it anymore. I think by “this building” he is definitely referring to 68 Jay and when he talks about people buying million dollar apts. he means J Condo.

I got word from the writer who said that Mr. Sievert was talking about the building that Wonk is in, not the J Condo site. He’s going to try to issue a correction. Thanks DOT and L.E. for the clarification.
