Dumbo NYC

Notes from the DUMBO, Brooklyn NY neighborhood

While it seemed like construction was slow all summer at 85 Adams, this past weekend, workers were busy installing the last of the dual glazed windows with special sound-absorbing liner. The external construction elevator was also taken down and the entrance to the lobby area was being worked on. The interior lights were installed and operational. While I’ve heard a lot from J Condo owners who are for the most part satisfied with the developers, I haven’t heard from any Beacon Tower owners. Do any readers own any units and have updates on move-in dates?

So... the signs in the JCondo commercial space windows for "Bridge Apothecary coming soon" is just a ruse for a new Starbucks? Pretty sneaky!
  • dumbonyc has previously reported on the expected pharmacy moving into the commercial space in JCondo. Probably another starbucks would be my guess. Didn't realize there would be commercial space in the Beacon too?

Looks like some of you folks have finally moved in, true? If so, welcome to the neighborhood! Curious if there is any news as to when the building will be fully occupied. Cheers.

If their attorney is saying April/May then that is the earliest that the closings will occur.

I purchased in the Beacon as well and after several calls they got back to me. Their lawyer says that people will move in in 2 phases, 1-12th floors and then the rest. Estimate move-in time for both is April/May. We got that out of the lawyer after 3 tries and he was not aware at all that there had been further delays beyond not meeting the initial September/October move-in days. I hope he was wrong and it will be completed early March. Living month 2 month at my current place and can't wait....

Thanks for putting the Beacon Yahoo group site up Brian... I set that up a while ago in hopes we could all rally together and keep informed. Let's try and get that going. So, they definitely are not letting owners look at the units which I think is really unprofessional... They are not sending letters or communicating either. All we can hope for is that the building is constructed well, and that the inside of the units don't disappoint. I walked by last weekend and the fitness center is almost complete and that looks like it could potentially be attractive... glass walls overlooking the garden.

great...its about time someone started a group for the owners to discuss whats going on!
  • Thanks Brian,
Keep us updated. We're looking to have you move into the neighborhood!

I also own a unit here. Just wanted to let everyone know a Yahoo! group has been set up for the Becon Tower. There are only a few of us here right now, but everyone should join. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/beacontower This would be a much better forum for us to all connect and discuss any issues. (To the dumbonyc editors - we'll still be sure to feed you updates.)

do you own in the building? I was told that they are not showing the units to owners anymore.
  • bb1
The sales office shows the units Monday - Thursday, they also said that they just received the TCO, which sounds like they should be done by Feb, but with constructions that really never means much.

    K.E.I., Steve,

I must say that I didnt want to admit that i own their becuase of the delay in construction, but i do and i hear the same story about them being ready in mid February. Have any of you guys been able to look at your units to see how far along they are? Speaking to the sales office has not been helpful at all. Have you guys worked with the in house wells fargo mortgage broker at all?

We should be moving in by the end of Feb at the latest for sure, is what I'm told. As for the metal plates, I thought it looked fixed, but I could be wrong.
  • Rascal
In construction terms, February is, like, tomorrow. Never gonna happen.
  • Steve
Hey. I also own there. After three missed deadlines, I was told the other day that move in date is somewhere around february 15, 2007. Although, knowing the amazing way they can really f*ck shit up, I am sure I will not be in until june.
  • pete
I walk by there every morning still see dents on the metal plating out front.
  • CJ
A NICE CARPET STORE! Yes... that is just what dumbo needs, right up there with more art studios and overpriced boutiques! I hope you were making a joke about ABC moving out, otherwise I will meet you at Gleason's tonight so we can duke it out.

The commercial broker is RKF and last I heard it they were asking $35000 a month. I would like a nice quite carpet store,
  • TWC
Good to hear. We look forward to having you in the neighborhood. Have they given you any indication as to what is moving into the ground floor commercial space?
  • K.E.I.
I'm not afraid to admit that I own there. The construction did fix the dents on the side, and they're moving quickly to finish up. I can't wait to move into the area in the spring!!
