Forget your worries about repairs. I’m an MTA worker who feels the High and York St stations are in excellent shape (the employee facilities, not seen by the public, are evident of that). I can name quite a few stations in Brooklyn which are indeed in a dilapidated state (go look at the 86th St station in Bay Ridge, R line). What you need to worry about are the lack of exits in case of an emergency!

Has there ever been talk of making a dumbo stop on the manhattan bridge for all the express trains that pass through? Can’t help but imagine how awesome it would be to jump on the D or N from there.
