I heard from a reliable source that Dellorito’s on 29 Jay Street (next to The Plant) is opening for business on Saturday. Their sign says:
“Dellorito’s, Grill and Creamery
Serving grilled cheese and Panini Sandwiches
Burgers, Soups and Salads
Old Fashioned Ice Cream Parlor (fountain drinks, sundaes, cones, hot coffee)”
This will be a nice complement to Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory or Almondine in the area. Let us know what you think of Dellorito’s if you happen to go this weekend.
UPDATE: A commenter confirmed via an ad in Brooklyn Papers that the opening day is tomorrow.

saw an ad in the Brooklyn Papers today that the grand opening is Saturday Oct. 21st and they are gong to have free delivery in the DUMBO area. Also they have gallery wall space available – call #718 403-7328. regular phone # is 718 403 7326. They also list the address as 25 Jay. Typo? In addition to the stuff on the sign you have a photo of, the ad says that they’ll have a salad bar, 16 varieties of homemade ice cream, egg creams & cherry lime rickys.

They were distributing free samples of their pastry during the art festival last weekend (Sunday, anyway). The chocolate cheesecake was AMAZING! My wife and I were also able to order some of their “homemade” ice cream. My wife had vanilla, I had one scoop of cookie dough and one scoop of low fat (or no fat) chocolate. The ice creams were okay, nothing to scream about. It will be a great addition ot he neighborhood, though.

Funny, I thought they already had their grand opening. They were open this weekend for the arts festival. Perhaps, that was just a special trial run? I stopped in and had some soup, which was excellent btw. The ice cream looked good, but considering the temps on Saturday I opted for the soup. Anyway, the set up is nice… they already had some art displayed on the walls and have two flat panel tv’s in the back. There’s an overall bright and cheery feel to the space. The only drawback is the location, which can be easily missed if you’re not paying attention. They will need to get a good sign/awning to draw the Front st crowd down their way.
