The Daily News has a piece about Brooklyn’s best eateries today. Dumbo institutions Grimaldi’s and River Cafe made the list of Brooklyn’s top restaurants in Zagat’s top 50.

Meanwhile, NYCnosh.com, a food blog has a thorough review of Bubby’s in Dumbo. While I haven’t had all the entrees they reviewed, I agree that some dishes are wonderful, while others are just plain. I’ve had both brunch and dinner there. The dinner was disappointing compared to their brunch. I had their burger, where their bun was so thick and dry, and the sides were bland that I decided that I was not going there for dinner again. The brunch is a different story. I’ve been to Bubby’s in Tribeca and had very good brunch there. So I recently went back to the Dumbo Bubby’s for brunch. If you like sweet breakfasts, their french toast, waffles, and pancakes are very good. The best savory dishes include the corn beef hash, apple turkey sausage, and thick cut bacon.
I hate to say this because Bubby’s in Dumbo is in my neighborhood, and I wanted to like it as much as their Tribeca location, but I would never choose Bubby’s for dinner. And although their brunch is good, it wouldn’t be my first choice. However, if I were to go for their homemade pies, I could go there anytime.

I used to order the turkey burger from Bubby’s fairly regularly, until their delivery started getting erratic and unreliable. When at one point it took them nearly 90 minutes to get my order over (a block and a half away), I called and was told that the delivery person had nine orders to deliver at once. When the guy finally arrived, I asked him why they gave him so many orders. He said he only had two. When I called again to speak with the manager about my experience, he was nasty and beligerant. I told him I would never patronize the establishment again and I haven’t. I, too, am disappointed to have to report a bad experience because I love the area and want to support it, but they’ll have to upgrade their practices if they’re gonna get neighborhood love.

I find it interesting that Superfine continues to go unnoticed in all the big mags around town. It is by far the best food in Dumbo proper.

PK, I agree,it may be that the major publications haven\’t ventured to Superfine yet.
Rascal, 90 minutes is unacceptable. Maybe if they had better service and a new weekday chef, their dinner service could get busier.

Rascal,
I am really sorry for your experience, I am the General Manager and one of the owners at Bubby’s Brooklyn. I am personally putting a lot of effort into improving our delivery and our efficiency so we can serve the neighborhood better.
Somehow, if you allow me, I would like to make up for your terrible experience. Please email me at baris@bubbys.com or you can call me at the restaurant.
