Realizing that while it’s probably common knowledge it has nonetheless escaped me: do we know who purchased the three-story clocktower unit at 1 Main Street?

no one - it’s still for sale.

I believe David Walentas is preparing the clocktower condo at 1 Main for sale, according to the article. Not sure if it can command more than the $10 million asking price though.

I had heard rumors that the unit WAS sold and that the tenant will be the young son of a wealthy (duh!) lawyer or businessman. Is this just a rumor, then, or is there some basis in fact?

just a rumor. the unit wasn’t sold. check the NY Post article that was mentioned - it confirms that the apt. will be put up for sale shortly.
