Dumbo in Sept 2006 Vanity Fair
August 14th, 2006

The September 2006 issue of Vanity Fair magazine has a 2 page photo spread with Dumbo neighborhood on Water Street in the background…kind of. The streetscape is blurry, but anyway, it’s in Dumbo.
Vanity Fair fashion and style director Michael Roberts and photographer Mark Seliger chose the urban setting of the Dumbo neighborhood in Brooklyn for the photo shoot. The New York Red Bulls are featured and can be found on pages 360 and 361 of Vanity Fair’s 400-page Style Issue.
The players are sporting mohawks and camouflage army-surplus fashion designed by Junya Watanabe. Watanabe’s fall men’s-wear collection, which was inspired by Robert De Niro’s character in the 1976 film Taxi Driver, was modeled by the Red Bulls in a street scene that mirrored the setting of the movie.

Totally fascinating… I’m glad you wrote about this in a blog post. I’ve cross-posted this on my Taxi Driver blog and also emailed a mohawk-themed blog (moblawg.blogspot.com) since I thought they might interested as well.
Were they any other interesting backdrops for the fashion layouts in that issue? Maybe we can blog about them too…
